What Does It Mean to be a “Certified” Editing Professional?

Being a certified copyeditor means an individual has obtained a specific level of education in the field. One who holds this certification will be fluent in the following areas:

  • Mechanics: Knowledge of the rules of grammar, punctuation, hyphenation, etc.
  • Language and Usage: Understanding of syntax and recognition of inappropriate, incorrect or confusing wording.
  • Style: Ability to consistently use required guides to resolve matters of style.
